Keen to learn Reiki?

The word Reiki can be split up into two syllables.

rei

Rei = Universal Power or Infinite Wisdom and knowledge.

“Rei”. This can be in the form of having a brilliant idea, or we may feel prompted
to do/not do a certain thing.

I believe we all are in contact at different levels with the Universal power / wisdom.

ki

Ki = Life force Energy. This flows through all living organisms.

“Ki” flows through all of us during every second of the day and night.
We are alive because of “Ki”. It beats our heart.

The word Reiki is the name used for Universal Energy.

Can I learn Reiki?

Yes, anybody can learn Reiki.

Reiki is easy to learn but like anything, it will require practice.

Reiki techniques are part of a lineage and are passed down from a qualified teacher to student through an “Attunement”. If you decide to learn Reiki, I think it is important to find a teacher you feel comfortable with. Once you have been attuned into the Reiki Energy it will be with you for the rest of your life, even if you don’t practise Reiki for several years.

I teach Usui Reiki.

History of Usui Ryoho Reiki

In Japan, healing through Energy had already been around for many years, in different forms and under different names.

Mikao Usui Sensei (1865-1926)

Mikao Usui SenseiThe founder of Usui Reiki is Mikao Usui Sensei. Mikao studied various Martial Arts from a young age. He was an avid reader of history, various religious scriptures and medical books. He studied in China and travelled to Europe and America. When Mikao was older he would meditate, chant and fast on the top of Mount Kurama for a period of 21 days.
During one of those occasions he was enlightened with the Reiki Energy and from this he developed his style of Reiki which he called Usui Reiki Ryoho. He tried Reiki on himself and his family members with great results.
Because Usui Mikao had great knowledge of other healing modalities both physically and spiritually, it is said that he incorporated these within the Usui Reiki Ryoho.
In 1922 at Aoyama in Tokyo, he established an institute where people could come for treatment. During this time, Mikao Usui also began teaching others. In 1923 there was a devastating earthquake and Usui and his students offered Reiki to the injured. Mikao passed away on March 9th 1926. During his life, he had trained 16 teachers. One of those teachers was Hayashi Chujiro.

Hyashi Chujiro Sensei (1879-1940)

Hyashi Chujiro SenseiHyashi was a medical doctor in the Japanese Navy. After his retirement in 1926, he was initiated to become a Reiki Teacher by Mikao Usui Sensei. He opened his own clinic and introduced a treatment table in which several Reiki practitioners would administer Reiki on his clients. This was different from the traditional method of sitting on a chair. Hyashi initiated Mrs Hawayo in 1938.

Takata Hawayo (1900-1980)

Takata HawayoA Japanese-American born in Hawaii, Takata travelled to Japan after she was diagnosed with a serious gall bladder disease. Takata was treated by Hyashi and recovered completely. She decided to stay on to learn Reiki before returning to Hawaii. Upon returning to Hawaii she opened her own clinic. Takata initiated 22 teachers and though her efforts, Reiki became popular in the West.
